Helton Howland Memorial Park - Tallapoosa, GA
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Neil,

Here are some photos of what we found Helton Howland Memorial Park in Tallapoosa, GA.

We also went to the Medal of Honor Park in Tallapoosa as well - no AFVs at that location.

Enjoy!

Starting with the M60.

Howitzer Glacis.

What do these numbers indicate?

The bottom ones looks like the registration number.

The top one looks like Confused The FSN (Federal Stock Number) Shocked ?

Every item used bty the U.S. government has an FSN assigned. From a can of spray paint or a box of pens up to vehicles and other large items.

There used to be a joke on the flightline that if we could find the FSN for an F-15 we could just order a whole new plane.

There were different categories of items. Some were 'expendable' and could just be ordered as needed (XB3 was the supply code used by the Air Force when I was in) others required higher levels of accountability. Many required the old or broken item to be turned in within when the new one was issued. This sometimes caused creative solutions to resolve missing equipment Rolling Eyes (The MASH episode where Hawkeye as Mess Officer has to account for missing mess trays)

I remember one time I was in the Tech Store ordering spares for our troops vehicle when another particularly obnoxious Troop Sgt came in and left his demand book on the counter. We promptly opened it and added a demand for a complete Chieftain turret armour shell to it. It was with great satisfaction we watched him getting reamed out when it actually arrived several months later at great expense....
