I've made a post at Transload and the Military section is seriously interested. I have at least two of the branch commanders, airforce and navy, responses. Thanks for the info earlier to my test flight. I look forward to the updates and the test planes. Also Stoopy, the flight plans are fine, the flight time is around 1 - 1 1/2 hours with the leg to Da Nang, so close to 1 hour total without. Just about right.

fled
Cool

Check PM Fled!

Ah, and you too, Wingnut, you have a "goodie" waiting...also thanks for verifying the flight plans and times.

Y'all BETA testers for fr8ycat's OH-6 please let us know how she installs, looks, and flies. Should be no surprises, and thanks for your time!

Keep in mind that a further revision of Phu Bai is in the works, will be ready in a day or two. It's the same basic package with far better and more realistic macros. Also, I gotta' revise the "readme" for credits.

Also, I posted at Hovercontrol with a link to this thread.

Well, it's kinda like "Broke Down South of Dallas" but easier to dance to!

Good to see that ol' workhorse on the beat!

JB actually played out here a couple of weeks ago but it was during the workweek so I couldn' go.

It's been a couple years since seeing him live, but like I said before if you can appreciate good musicians you wont be sorry seeing him play live. The best guitar player I've seen live.

Hey Ascout, I think this is what you were singing to yourself when you took that screen shot, Bad Boys, Bad Boys, What ya gonna do, What ya gonna do when we come for you! LOL!!!!! Twisted Evil

Fr8ycat and Stoopy, I took the new helo out for a test flight tonight, and it is sweet. All gauges are where they are supposed to be, and the gun works great. I took her through her paces, and did a complete roll and it worked perfectly. I did a few hammerhead stalls, turns, climbs, dives, speed runs and hovers. It is a breeze to fly, and it handles great. If there were anyone down there at Phu Bai watching me, they would have thought I lost my mind, the way I pushed the aircraft. It still performed perfecly. It's was almost as if I thought of a maneuver, the helicopter did it, without hesitation. I looked her over preatty closely and didn't see anything that stands out. It is a very responsive helicopter, and I like it. I know what I will be flying for the mission, probably the gun version. I like the WP grenades hanging on the wire and on the door frame. Nice touch.

Excellent. Hopefully we'll hear the same from Fled soon, and fr8ycat, can we call this a wrap?

Also, for fr8ycat - what do you think about also packaging this in the full mission-file that will include other stuff (planes, maps, etc)? Would you consider granting permission for that?

And one more thing for those of you who tried the flight plan(s) and the Com-C MilFlight BGL scenery file with waypoints and smoke effects - pink smoke at the LZ's for the helo's, and white smoke and a coulpe of fires near Khe Sanh for the Skyraiders - did you see these smoke effects and are they acceptable?

In talking to Shadow_bshwckr, we both agree it may be sensible to keep the SEA Terrain Mesh as a seperate download since it's so large, however if the freeware license allows it we can at least make an installer for this purpose rather than 4 seperate ZIP files as it is now.

If all goes well we could have a prototype "package" file or two sometime late this weekend or within a week at most possibly....it would be a prototype for additional MP testing only, since we want to take our time and get it right I believe, and Ascout will need some time on Phu Bai. No rush, and that's the status from this perspective.

Can I respectfully suggest "yellow" instead of pink. Personally, I don't recall pink (at least it wasn't common) and it wouldn't be as visible, anyway. More common colors in the field tended to be white, violet, yellow, and red (red might be hard to see).

I might be a bit longer on Phu Bai because Al has graciously consented to build some custom macros for the Terminal/Tower (my shape is good, but color is wrong)...and he can better scale it to reality. He is also working on some custome white trailers for the 8th RRU area instead of the lashup barracks I was originally using. Probably not important to some, but it will be those personally familiar with the place in reality. I think he can knock this out rather quick, but I'm leaving on Wednesday for Brasil for a week or so. Should be able to wrap up just after if not before. I've made substantive and worthwhile changes that greatly enhance the realism of the place (a lot of it owed to Al's already available macros, which I only recently acquired). It'll be worth it!

Absolutely, you can suggest yelloow, and I'll make that happen right away. I had questions about this already, and admittedly my own practical experience with this is comes only out of Hollywood, where I remember pink from "Apocalypse Now" (where Lance activates a pinkish smoke grenade on the boat and says "hey look! Purple Haze!") and other movies, but I hadn't had time to re-watch "We Were Soldiers" or more accurate films. Been yearnign for some feedback on that, so Yellow it is!

As for the rest, take your time! I can tweak and maybe work in a few other thigns in the effects if anyone has thoughts...just nothing too overboard please....This WILL be good, and WILL happen! Smile

Can you and Fr8ycat put a surfboard on the skids of a UH-1C? I'm thinking a Yader Spoon, the 8-6.....and bring a board for Lance.....

Wink
