Post subject: Samsung LCD monitor frustration Rant

I picked up a Samsung 206 bw 20 inch monitor in june this year as my old
17" crt was feeling the years by showing me some very interesting colors.
Anyway, I brought the thing home and I noticed a dead pixel in the middle of the screen..... Sad So of course i'm gonna take it back right?. The shop where I bought(Canada Computers) has a 7 day no questions asked return policy if your not satisfied with the product. I walk in the store and inform the clerk of the problem and would like an exchange(ok now deep breaths) He says they cannot take it back because Samsung will not take back monitors unless they have 7 or more dead pixels Evil or Very Mad I was livid!

I asked for the manager and reminded them of they'r policy but the prick
told me that there was nothing he could do so, I called theyre head office and just ended up shouting at the guy on the phone getting nowhere. So, I decide that theres nothing I can do about it. 2 weeks later I come home from work and my dear wife informs me that there is something wrong with the monitor. It wont power up. I call Samsung and they say no problem, RMA , reurn it and we'll give you a refurb. sigh...2 weeks later our freindly neighborhood UPS man shows up with the monitor COOL! I thought. The monitor was all marked up, the base was so loose that it wouldn't stand up properly and to top it all off.....the DVI plug would not work VGA only Crying or Very sad
I'm on the phone with Samsung again. They create another RMA and another 2 weeks go by. i pull the monitor out of the box, it seems to look ok , the base is tight, awesome...finally. Well I hooked it up the DVI plug works ...windows is booting and there it is........A BIG FAT green Dead pixel in the middle of my screen, twice the size and a lovely brite green Mad

I call Samsung and they say .....I'm sorry sir but we can only do RMA's on 7 dead pixels or more.

The Moral of the Story:

-Always have the vendor plug the monitor in before you buy or no sale.

-Question everything about the warrenty.

-Buy from reputable dealers like futureshop,Bestbuy or Staples as they stand by theyre policies.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest

Jeez mate, hope your luck with the national sweepstakes is better.

Really sorry to hear of your woes it is really sad that nowadays the only thing companies are interested in is advertisment campaigns to get you and once you bought it, you are on your own .................. it is really sad as where the whole is going.

I guess I should say in fairness that its a pretty good monitor. I'm sure companies like LG and the lot have similar policies but at least with Samsung ,They obviously have quality control issues from the factory all they way to their repair depot. All anyone wants these days is our hard earned $.

Chuck,
There's a way to cure it but it takes a lot of time and effort.
It does work, I've done it myself (with varying degrees of success).

Clean soft cloth, gentle massage in circles.
May take weeks / months but one day you'll suddenly realise it's gone.
Or at least diminished to such a degree that you don't notice it any more.

I purchased my Samsung 940 BF from NCIX (Vancouver) more than a year ago. I had concerns over the dead pixel issue, so for a few dollars purchased the dead pixel insurance , which guaranteed me no dead pixels. Well I received the monitor an ran the dead pixel test, and no dead pixels...so I wasted the money but had a warm fuzzy feeling about the purchase. I really think Samsung should review their dead pixel policy, particularly when it right in the middle of the screen.

Hasn't made mine any worse.
You really don't need to use any pressure.
Just a very gentle circular motion about 2" diameter over the affected area.
