I was asked a question in the differences of the support brackets as mounted on the M40GMC.

There seems to be 3 different styles.

Is this due to production advances (casted be the earliest?...) or by specific design?

The second & third type seem to be a single piece of steel which has the slot(s) cut out.

Any ideas ?

Don

There were two different part numbers for the brackets (actually more, as there were different numbers based on the position of the bracket), one for cast brackets and one for fabricated brackets. They were interchangeable parts made by different methods, like the different sprockets (cast, forged, and cut from plate), large drivers hatches, and others. The reason for the variations in the two plate styles is unknown to me. I haven't seen the drawing so I don't know which one is right - maybe both.
