Finally bought a decent puter and bought COD and got it installed and running.I bought it from "Steam" for a fair amount of dollars and that is what the multiplayer can run through. For the short bit of time that I have had with it I would say that it looks and plays a whole lot better than anything that I have tried before.I am still a long way off from being a good teammate in multiplayer and for the short term I wont have a lot of time with it but consideriing that the steam lobby has multiple games that are full at 128 players I think that this is going to prove worht the wait

Outstanding, Dan! Glad you took the plunge!

I almost bought it myself but missed the sale price back in November. Not sure how it will run on my existing 2GB Windows XP system. Please keep us posted with your impressions and screenshots, I for one would like to join up with you eventually!

I don't recall hearing much about this after it's initial release, and very little of that was good. Then again, I don't have it, either.

Looking over some reviews, it seems it's had patches and such, and only playable on Steam. Also seems to be a little fussy about getting sorted. That last item is the quickest way for me to dismiss a game...I hate fussing with the computer to stay "compatible" with others.

Would like to hear more.

Steam is a requirement to play, boxed version or download version does not matter.
The developers also just announced before the first of the year a new theatre of operations, Battle over Moscow, that I am not entirely sure will be compatible with Cliffs of Dover so CoD may become an obsolete item in the next 6 months? If they follow the IL-2 pattern you will need to buy the new version and CoD will be upgraded with it.

(The following is gleaned from reading forum posts and not gameplay.)

There are two camps which run about the same in size, one side loves it and the other side is constantly complaining about it not working properly. Even the side that loves it most of them admit that there are still things broken but are willing to give the developers a pass since they have been working to fix things. Online is the better of the two styles of play since both sides agree that offline pretty much stinks. The dynamic campaign generator was dropped at the last minute and the static campaigns leave a lot to be desired and from what I have read barely work, and the after action debriefings are not very well coordinated to the action that you just completed. In some instances the After Action Debriefings make no sense at all.

Sounds like my X wife... Wink

I have to say I've not put the time into CoD to make an accurate assumption. The one thing I usually do with any software is check the support of that software and CoD has lousy support and their forums go to 1946 which IMO isn't the same thing. I'm still excited about the possiblities of CoD, but it's not looking good in terms of development or debugging.

Thanks for the links Wheels, lots of good stuff.I have been making progress with the game,I am getting the feel for the Hurricane and the Spit and am able to cling pretty good on the bad guys tail and pick my shots.biggest problem right now is that all the multi player games use complex engine managment, even when I turn on the fuel petcock and the magnito the engine just stalls right after I start it,the pdf article on engine managment was no help, can anyone clue me in as to what I am missing?

Well with a bit of digging i found out that I was missing a lot,Airwarfar has a great PDF file that I downloaded and u tube has a bunch of really good how to clips that cover all the planes.I have a lot to do and am getting more stoked about this simm as I spend more time with it.I still haven't had any glitches, the patch downloaded and installed all by it's self and the simm runs smoothly with the graphics set to high but starts to stutter when set to very high, much like myself. Rolling Eyes Anyway I will be going back up north and will be gone for a week or three but I am taking the pdf file with me and will post again when I get back.
