Hi All,

We’ve added a gallery of images of the M41A3 on display in Overton, NV at the Looks-to-be-FORMER VFW Post 8336. The tank is still on display, but the building looked vacant and bricked up. The plate on the back had 2986 in the upper left and 2982 in the upper right - so SN 2986 and Build Number 2982.

Yeah, oops! Corrected original post and gallery.

AFV register lists it as an M41A3.

I don't think there is any way to discern an M41A1, M41A2, or M41A3 from the outside, at this point in time. There is a serial list of those made as M41s before the M41A1s came online, but I don't there is an external difference. There is certainly nothing visibly different between the carburetted and fuel-injected engine tanks.

Near as I can figure after studying a heap of images about 8 years ago is as follows:

M41 ~ Redesignated T41 prototypes with cutaway front & rear mudguards.
M41A1 ~ Initial production version with no generator exhaust.
M41A2 ~ Angled tool rack.
M41A3 [Rebuild] ~ Various rebuilt M41 with generator exhaust on lhs engine exhaust.
M41A3 [Upgraded] ~ Various early models upgraded with generator exhaust on front rhs.

The SNLs don't make such distinctions because the model number changes were only concerned with fire control and fuel systems. Newer parts were phased in at certain serials as they became available. If you look though, there are plenty of vehicles that had the newer accessories added when the originals were damaged or wore out.
