Well, the museum will probably be closed on the 8th. But I think they should be open on the 7th... Not speaking for Bob, but it appears to me there will be at a minimum two weekends in April with folks from this board visiting the museum. Now, whether or not Bob is available is the question - which I'll let him speak to. He's the guy with the real pull & access. I just sorta helped him out once and otherwise tagalong... I suspect the 21st will be the "big weekend" with access to that one yard - which I have yet to see myself!

Bob,

If you think this would be possible on the AMPS weekend, please email me at:

tankmodeler@rogersdotcom (replace the "dot" with ".")

and we can start the ball rolling.

I'll call Ed at the museum early next week and find out if they are closed on Easter.

I can probably do two weekends in April if we need to.

So is anyone going to be bringing along their spouse or significant other to this event? I have a girlfriend that will be joining me on my trip to Delaware and I'm afraid she isn't going be too thrilled with spending a day at an Armor Museum with a bunch of guys. Also kind of leary of leaving her with my parents for the day as they will just be meeting each other the day before - but I guess I could if I had too.

Also - is the 21st of April pretty much a set date for one of these events to take place? I plan on making airline reservations sometime next week.

thanks

I called the Museum today. They are open on Easter (It isn't a Federal Holiday)

I think Eric is going to be in town at the beginning of the month (He is working around a school vacation schedule) I'm not sure exactly when Dontos is coming. AMPs is the weekend of th 21st so I'll definitely be doing the Belair Rd storage yard tour that weekend (probably Saturday)

By the way I'm doing a Weblos tour This Sunday Afternoon.

As far as spouse or SOs Mine won't be there. As far as things fo hre to do there is always shopping Smile There is a big mall at White Marsh, about 10 miles or so down I-95 towards Baltimore. There is a small Outlet shopping center at Perryville (Just across the Susquehanna) and a Saks outlet store at their distribution center just outside the gate. Sorry - I've got a very understanding spouse that has been known just to spend the time I'm at a musuem reading .

If it'd be ok to tag along, I'd love to come as well. I'd probably bring a guest, although she has a history degree so all this tank stuff is semi-interesting to her...

I talked to the folks at Aberdeen late last week and it is set up to do a tour of the Belair Street Storage yard on Saturday April 21st. As of right now I am planning on doing 2 sessions if needed so my plan is to schedule one session for 10 AM and another for 1 PM. We may need to limit the number of folks included in the tour so I am setting up an email signup sheet.

To sign up for the tour

Send an e-mail to Tanktour{at}monocacy.com (replace the {at} with the appropriate keyboard character) in the message please tell me whether you prefer 10 AM or 2 PM and where you heard about the tour. To keep things simple please send a seperate email for each person that wants to come on the tour

If we want to do a AFVnews get together on the same weekend now would probably be a good time to start getting a headcount and make some plans

Bob, sounds great!

And dont forget we'll likely also do a smaller, lower-key tour on the 7th for Eric & anyone else that date works better for.

I sent a PM to Eric already. I'm not sure if it will be the 7th or another day based on his shedule (The 7th would be the easiest to do)

I'm touching this thread so it moves back to the top.

I am trying to firm up my plans for April right now and Aberdeen is figuring prominently in them.

Unfortunately I recently dumped my old PMs before grabbing all the details out of them (I do have everyones requests for the Belair St Storage yard tour that were sent to tanktour {at] monocacy.com.

Hopefully I'll be sending out confirmations very soon.

Bob, are there any hotels close to the museum that you'd recommend? Thanks. Smile

AMPS lists the following hotels for their show the weekend of the 21st. Some of these may be closer to Havre de Grace, so you may want to call ahead - although they're not really that far apart and it probably wouldnt matter that much... And a number seem to be in Aberdeen anyway...

But definately dont expect Aberdeen MD to be a major metropolitan area! Its a very typical "Army town," sorta like Fayeteville... On second thought, no -- and no disrespect -- Fayeteville is bigger...

I just got a PM from Eric Lauterbach

We were planning another tour in Early April when he would be in town. That is now being planned for Saturday March 31. Anyone else is welcome to join us for that tour also.

As far as Hotels remember Aberdeen is on the main East coast travel route between Richmond and Boston (I-95 is the most heavily traveled interstate in the nation) so there are hotels and motels at most of the exits along the route north of Baltimore. Aberdeen is well within the 'commuting distance for Baltimore so anything along either I-95 or US 40 on the north side of Baltimore outside the Beltway (I 695) is not really that far away. If you go north of Aberdeen more than one town (Havre de Grace, the actual site of AMPS) there is a toll bridge across the Susquehanna river. The toll is sort of steep (I think $4.00) but it is only in one direction (North) and on teh US-40 bridge you can buy a commuer pass good for a year that costs the same as one trip across the Bridge!

I'm looking forward to seeing folks both AMPS weekend and on March 31.

Doug, you know there's a standing invite if you can stop on one of your trips.
