2 new German tanks at Fort Sill
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Re: 2 new German tanks at Fort Sill

Here is an email I received today from Gordon Blaker, Director/Curator or the US Army Artillery Museum :

"Some additional information on a couple of pieces.
1. Please update caption - Our M40 GMC has been moved from behind the museum onto a pad in the museum's Artillery Park. A distance of less than 100 meters from where it was photographed. Looks just like the photo you have.
2. New acquisition - T64E1 previously at the Ordnance Museum is now here. It is currently stored inside in the same building as the German SPs. It has not been refurbished yet, fairly decent condition as is, although missing the driver's hatch. We are in the process of trying to get a museum extension built, if that is successful and as large as we hope, the Gorilla will be part of one of the Korean War diorama planned for it.

Recent restoration projects have all been towed and/or earlier artillery. We now have seven units of ENIAC, the world's first electronic computer, on exhibit. It was built in 1945 to calulate artillery firing tables. Volunteer built reproduction bed for our newly acquired M1841 10-inch Seacoast Mortar and it is also now on exhibit.

That said, the one project of intererest in your area is we are working on restoring the driver's compartment of the M12, 155mm GMC. This includes fabricating a instrument panel, installing one original seat and fabricating a dummy one. The dummy one will go on the co-driver's side with a uniformed mannequin seating in it. We will also work to add everything else that was original in the compartment. A step will be built to allow visitors to look inside.
Thanks,
Gordon"
