Eisenhower Park - Abilene, KS - Gallery
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello All,

We’ve added a gallery of photos of the AFVs on display at Eisenhower Park in Abilene, KS - M110A2 SN BMY598, M60 SN 780, and an M7 Priest.

The registry lists M60A0 SN 3460 but the SN on the M60 was 780.

M60 gurus - how do I visually tell the difference between an M60 and M60A0?

M60A0 is an alternate speak for M60 sans suffixe. It's just meant as a specific to distinguish early versions, while M60 can be used as an umbrella term for the entire series.

Well said, Sir. It's ironic that we've evolved an imprecise, non-existent model designation in an effort to be more precise!

There is also the phrase "slick 60" to denote that first model M60 with the turtle turret.

Tankers and tank people are an odd lot, for sure. Laughing

It would be even more ironic if the A0 suffix was coined after this variant was withdrawn from service. Was it?

The only place I've seen it used is by people who post here, though I wouldn't rule out others. I blame JoeD and some other usual suspects. Laughing

Here's 3 shots of the early M60 (or if you prefer, the M60A0) I was invited to photograph the C Company 6/68th armor when they were active at Ft. Indiantown Gap in 1983. Too much mist and rain that day, photos quality not best. Note the add on of the M85 MG. Rick

Abilene was the location of HHC 2/635 AR KSARNG, that's where the Slick 60 came from. The M110A2 belonged to 1/161 FA KSARNG at one time. 2/635 AR went away about `94 with a lot of their people rolled into 1/635 AR. When 1/127 FA got the M109A6s in `93 to replace the M109A4s they had, 1/161 got rid of their M110A2s and took over the M109A4s. 1 & 2/635 AR had Slicks till about `87 or `88 then trasitioned to M60A3s. 1/635 AR ended up being the last full Bn. of M60s in the Army when we got our M1IPs in`98. The M60A3s were shipped to Jordan after we turned them in. Just a little history of the KSARNG from a former member of 1/635 AR.
