After being out of the loop in what seems like forever and the arrival of my flight stick, I beg to question - what is the status of the CFS3 Servers? Are they gone for good?

Well unfortunately it appears so. It seemed the writing was on the wall when the server(s) originally were taken down for a "Security Update" and weren't online again in 30 days (shouldn't even take Microsoft THAT long, you know?).

To be honest after going over to that "other" combat flight sim I haven't even fired up my CFS3 in so long, I got the usual "Config file is out of date" message when I fired it up just now to check, so after reconfiguring it again, sure enough, the GameMatch server could not be reached.

There are some diehards still clinging to CFS3 online by way of hosting Private IP games, and to my knowledge nothing ever came of adding HyperLobby support which is what is used for multiplayer in IL2.

Bummer deal. End of a long and illustrious era.

Well not quite dead yet! In fact there is a growing group flying cfs3!

it works just about the same as the old game zone, has a chat lobby and everything. Stop by sometime!

Hey Dak - good to see ya again! I'll have to check it out here in the next week and see what I can do. I installed it on my new laptop and have been hankerin to get online for a little fun. We have a wireless network (pay for it) and wanted to get some gaming in from over here.

Hmmm.....well I guess I could admit to an itch to parking my SBD in IL2 for a spell in order to poooOOOooot up the place in my ol' FW190.... will have to check that Gameranger dealybob out!

That GameRanger thing worked!

Got it loaded no fuss, went in, founf a CFS3 game, it was a little different since once you join it auto-launches CFS3, I got no joy the first time, but my router wasn't set up for my current IP address and I added port 16000 UDP for GameRanger (maybe don't have to do that, but I did)....tried again, and connected! Had to hit "Cancel" when asked to enter an IP address since I guess GameRanger takes care of the redirect, but it worked!

Flew and chatted with a coupla Spitpest fliers, like old times almost. Floundered around since my latest install has none of my old keys set up, joystick isn't calibrated, no buttons are assigned, I was a total helpless goof! Rusty as sin but did spash a couple of 'em. Felt good to fire the ol' Mk.108's again. Smile

Good deal!

Just for the heck of it, I'm attempting to host a game right now. You'll see it in CFS3 section if you fire up GameRanger in the next coupla hours....I'll leave it in the lobby room, just to have something up if anyone wants to give it a whirl. Of course if anyone wants to fly and I'm available (since I'll be running around a little) I'll hit "Start" and it'll be a 90% TAC & Tags room like old times. Smile

Hosted another couple and got us a (small) team dogfight. Yep, need some more customers, that's for sure, but was a good time, and GameRanger works very well. Very acceptable solution!

Haven't seen that sight in a longgggg time.
Most of the guys over there are still using the thread in SOH to get the ip for current games. But slowly they are catching on to using gameranger.
Been a lot of 100% games recently using the old NGNG planes. Guess its like the old saying, wait long enough and everything comes back in style.
I'll be sure and check both out see if we can't get hooked up!
