Man I love hearing this stuff!

And some of those old commercials are a real friggin' hoot. If you don't mind a quick detour into GM-land this one in particular for the '64 Buick Wildcat was a real side-splitter, considering the response it would get if aired today...no LULAC members around here I hope...

And I had no idea that Tuco Ramirez even did commercials! Shocked

I wish I would/could have kept those cars, but young family and moving towards everyday life expenses made me go for the more practical models such a 66 Dodge Charger with a 383 and *cough cough* automatic trans (That's the family part)...lol

In 1983 I bought a 1966 Dodge Cornet Station wagon from the original owner as a 'drive to work' $500 special. It had the small engine for that year the 383 2 bbl. (The optional engine was the Hemi)

One day I was driving home from Langley AFB on I-64 after a BAD day at work. I had moved from the fast lane to the second of 3 lanes because the road narrowed to two lanes in about a mile. Then a young kid in an almost new Camaro pulls out from behind me into the lane that is going to disappear and started to accelerate to get in front of me. That just pissed me off so I STOMPED IT the green monster hesitated for a moment and shuddered. Then it was like I had woken a sleeping giant. It tool off like a bat outta he**. I blew past him and flew for a mile or so until the road had settled down to two lanes. I let off the gas and slid calmly into the right lane a minute or so later he gently pulled up beside me and paced me staring over at the faded green station wagon that had just left him in it's dust. I was thinking 'kid every housewife in the neigborhood used to drive something like this to the grocery store. you kids that grew up after the 73 gas crisis don't know what a real engine is like!' Mr. Green

Great story! A rare thing these days to be able to dish out some proper vehicular justice "the way it usta be". One can almost feel the stumble you describe when the accelerator pump of that old 2-barrel threw a whole bunch of gas into the intake - it's just another bit of character lost these days...although on cold mornings I have to say I don' t miss dealing with that character to keep the engine running long enough to warm up. Wink

I like to think that the stumble was the old girl waking up and saying I ain't been asked to RUN in years

ROFL...

Yep, the old "Carb stumble" was something to remember and more prevalent in the "quad-ra-smoggers"...
