New photos @ Toadman's Tank Pictures
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

[quote="Roy_A_Lingle"]Hi Chris! Hi Folks!

- toadmanstankpictures

UPDATE 26AUG06
34 pics of a M114A1 "Lingle"

Super set of "Lingle" photos! Thanks!

One point for you Chris. The "Lingles" with split hatchs are NOT 'A1s'. That is a plain M-114 (or if you will a, M-114A0, my term, not offical). The M-114A1s had the XM-26 turret which the TC could fire while buttoned up. Twisted Evil

Some points for the Museum staff to consider:
1. The water can is mounted upside down. The cap should be up so less water will leak out of the can. I don't think I ever knew of one of those water cans that didn't leak. Crying or Very sad
2. Radio system is wrong. Surprised
2. a. Vehicle has two auxiliary receiver antennas, it should only have one if the vehicle is a squad leader vehicle.
2. b. There is no auxiliary receiver mounted on the radio shelf.
2. c. There is no receiver/transmitting antenna base for the radio. That type of radio, which is correct for a squad leader vehicle, should have an auxiliary receiver mounted on the radio shelf. Without the aux receiver, that radio in not normally found in that vehicle.
2. d. Antenna where generaly not mounted on the right side of the vehicle due to interfearance with the observer's field of fire. Also there would be a requirment for very long cables.
3. Two pick heads, should only be one. Confused
4. There should be a tanker's bar on top the rear edge of the hull if they have one. It was bit shorter that the ones found on tanks. There is something else wrong about the tools on the outside of the rear hatch. Maybe missing a long handled hammer?

Update! I remember now! Razz But then I was looking in Hunnicutt's Bradley book for help! Confused The item that is missing is the tripod for the M-60 machine gun. The units I was with, never carried it on the outside because it got very dirty. We always carried in them inside! The M-114 didn't have a long handled hammer! The M-113s had one for driving track pins in and out!

5. Why did they mount the fixed fire extinguisher where they did? Shocked As we have seen in photos that Jeff and Chuck have posted, those vehicles have the fixed extinguisher on the lower left wall next to the data plate. That area they have it mounted at is where the personel heater was mounted.
6. Chris please tell me that the inside of that vehicle is painted Sea Foam Green Smile and the lighting only makes it look like it has been painted white. Evil or Very Mad

Point to others, remember when I was talking about a hook that locked into that cutout on the observer's hatch. In Chris's photos you can see what I was remembering! In one photo you can see the hook locked into the hatch and in another, you can see the handle on the underside of the hull. That vehicle Jeff posted photos of must have some type hatch lock modification that I never saw!

All in all, it is great to see a M-114 that someone has taken a lot of trouble to clean up and restore. To all those who did the hard work and provided the funds to do that work, special thanks from this old scout!

Sgt, Scouts Out!

Hi Roy,
If anyone would have a gig sheet for my M114 pics, I knew it would be you! Laughing Laughing
I've corrected my site to show it as a M114. I'll see if anybody at the MVTF is interested in making the corrections. As for the color. I'm pretty sure its white! Sad I'll be heading up there for a visit tomorrow and will confirm for sure.

UPDATE 26AUG06
Hello everyone,
I just updated my site with the following pics:

60 pics of a 8 inch H.M.C. M43
34 pics of a M114A1 "Lingle"
53 pics of a Centurion Mk 13
and
59 pics of a Leopard C-2

The Leo pics are from "recceboy". Thanks again Anthony! When I went to Littlefield's last Saturday, there was nothing really new on the Panther for me to post. Hopefully there'll be more next month.

Update 19AUG06

I just uploaded some of the pics taken by "recceboy" onto my site. Here are the links:
Canadian Leopard C2

and

Canadian Lynx C-5

Thanks again, Anthony! I'll post more of his pics in the next couple of days. I hope to have some new pics of the Littlefield Panther by then as well since I'm supposed to be heading up there in an hour and a half from now.

Hi Roy,
Well, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. Laughing Laughing The next chance I have to get back to the warehouses, I'll open up the engine compartment and see what's there.

Hi Chris! Hi Folks!

- toadmanstankpictures

9 new pictures to the exisiting XM734/M113A1 gallery.

XM734/M113A1? Are you sure that vehicle has a diesel engine? When I first returned from my last tour to Vietnam, I was assigned to a Cavalry Troop that had a number of M113s with that type of gun port system. Don't remember the XM number, but I guess they did have one that we never used. We just called them 'gun port tracks' or 'gun tracks' and the normal ones just 'tracks' or 'PC's.

All of ours had Mo-Gas engines. At that time, ever M-113 type vehicle we had was Mo-Gas. The engine exhaust pipe on the top of the hull does look like a A1 type, but the rear engine assest panel looks like the type used with the Mo-Gas engines (M-113A0). The left rear fender looks like the drain plug for the Mo-Gas fuel tank is there. When the switch to diesel was made, the fuel tank drain was moved inside the hull, just about the pully for the ramp cable.

The troops seats on the inside are different. The ones I worked with had seats that faced outboard. At the rear was a removeable colume something like the normal one used for the TC's stand and seat assemble. The seats had quick release pins which held the back rest and bench seats between the TC's support colume and the colume at the rear of the hull.

That support colume for the TC is also different from the ones I worked with. Mine had standard columes with the jump seat removed and some extra holes added for the quick release pins for the center row of seats.

The ones I worked with had stardard Mo-Gas fuel tanks. Any idea where the fuel tank is in that vehicle? It clearly is not at the normal area for an APC.

Thanks for all the great photos! I am green with envy Mr. Green that you get to visit that great collection.

Sgt, Scouts Out!

It looks as though Jacques Littlefield has "more money than Gawd." Does anyone have a clue about how many millions the cost of his shop's amazing Panther restoration his shop has swallowed?

Nobody at the shop knows the actual cost yet. However, the estimate is $2-$2.5 million when completed.

I see you got a mention in Military Modelling Chris!

Cool

I haven't seen the magazine yet. However, Peter Brown, who did the write up emailed me a copy of what he wrote. It sure made me happy! Smile Smile
