New WW1 Museum in France
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi all,

Just discovered this article about a new WW1 museum near Paris. I read that it has an FT17 on display but I don't know where it came from. Looks worth a visit soon!

the Renault FT came from there :

the barracks and city of Gien, that lost "their tank", are very sorry of this transfer, but I think that it is better for such a tank to be preserved indoors.

Note that the mayor of Meaux, the city where the new museum has opened, is a former Minister of the Budget and is now General Secretary of the Union for a Popular Movement (the political party that enjoys an absolute majority in the National Assembly). His priviledged position in the government allowed him to request that tank to come in "his" museum.

Here is an article about the "lost" of the tank for the city and barracks in Gien ;

I'll have an opportunity to visit the museum on 2 December. However, it seems like taking good and clear photos of the FT-17 in the museum will be a bit hard :

Hello,

I visited the museum on last Friday, and here is the gallery showing the Renault FT (that comes from Gien) and some WW1 artillery guns and howitzers :
http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/meaux_ww1museum/

Flash was forbidden and the museum was not well lightened..
There are also two WW1 French airplanes, but I didn't add the pictures in the gallery.

This is a temporary gallery, that doens't appear yet on "Tanks in France", because I'm not on the usual computer which stayed at home.

I think that there are two reasons to this :
-to forbid the access to the tank to the general public, maybe because it has cracks on the armour (you can see them on the photos I took).
-to allow the tank to go outside, because there is a door at the back of the "tunnel", that goes outside.
