Interesting new requirement - "Marine Personnel Carrier"
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Interesting new requirement - "Marine Personnel Carrier"

Apparently a LAV replacement... So much for the old Expeditionary Family of Fighting Vehicles (EFFV - not to be confused with the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle EFV) that was to replace the Corps' Abrams & LAVs...

But I cant help wonder if this might be a crack in the EFV program's armor? Especially the reference to being used by infantry battalions? Perhaps they will back away from using Amtracs once you cross the beach and go to more traditional APCs? And so much for the Marines saying C-130 deployability was pointless for them...

In fact, this brief (slides 33-43) say the AAV doctrine will be used as the basis for the MPC:
www.mccdc.usmc.mil/fea.../Gap_9.ppt

"USMC doctrine for its existing personnel carrier, the AAV, can serve as a waypoint in the the development of MPC doctrine."

Looks like from other documents they plan to equip 6 infantry battalions with the MPC:
www.dtic.mil/descripti...06623M.pdf

Looks like some of the usual Piranha & LAV candidates are being considered...

Marine Personnel Carrier

Program Synopsis

This website has been established to provide information on the Marine Personnel Carrier (MPC). Strategic Planning Guidance (SPG) directed the Marine Corps to propose an appropriate mix of ground combat vehicles to support irregular warfare (IW) operations. The MPC program is an outgrowth of the Ground Mobility Initiative that answers the SPG tasking.

The MPC will possess a balance between performance, protection and payload and embody the following attributes:
- Scalable ballistic and mine protection
- Capacity for 2 crew and 10 passengers
- Operational and tactical mobility equivalent to the Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion
- C-130 aircraft transportability

The MPC will increase Infantry Battalion protected mobility and LAR Battalion striking power. It will also serve as a balanced expeditionary armored personnel carrier optimized for IW, but effective across the range of military operations.
The MPC is a family of approximately 500 vehicles that provide the following mission capabilities:
- Personnel Carrier
- Vehicle recovery and repair
- Logistics and resupply
- Command and control
- Weapon overwatch

This is the first posting related to the MPC program. Check back frequently as updated information will be posted as it becomes available.

Marines, for their part, are not only purchasing MRAP in large numbers but they also intend to acquire a new armored personnel carrier. The so-called Marine personnel carrier, or MPC, is not part of JLTV but rather a stopgap for the troubled Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. The Corps had planned on buying as many as 1,000 EFVs, which are tracked armored vehicles that run on the ground and in the water. But the program may not survive the latest round of cost overruns and performance failures. Marine officials asked to redirect some of its EFV funds to a new personnel carrier. The goal is to buy 600 vehicles between 2012 and 2016, said Conant. The Corps is considering buying an upgraded version of its light armored vehicle or possibly the same Stryker personnel carriers that the Army currently operates.

“We don’t need to buy top-end stuff to survive, Conant said. The MPC would give Marines a “cheap solution while the EFV sorts out its troubles. At the same time, it would give the Corps a much needed fast combat vehicle before JLTV arrives, said Conant.

I saw a Lockheed Martin - Patria AMV headed south on I-95 as I was driving back to DC. Unfortunately it was raining, and it was headed the other way, so I didnt get any pics - but I'm very sure it was an AMV sans turret. Very distinctive headlights.

Where's the 165mm Demolition Gun (or equivelent) ??????

Still no replacement for that CEV capability. Looks like they used the M1A1 cupola so at least the TC can fire the .50 buttoned up. Can't wait for the rest of the pictures.

Ssshhh... There's a conspiracy theory that abounds regarding the absence of 165mm guns on M728 CEVs on display... Not for ABV technically though...
