Reproducions of WW I vehicles
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Are we talking only about tanks or AFVs in general?
There is a Lancia 1Z repro at Cecchignola, Roma

Isn't this one the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" tank?, not a replica as such.

The Last Crusade tank was roughly modeled on a Mark VIII, I don't know it I would call not call it a WW1 tank replica. I also believe they hauled what was left of the well known static version of this prop off the Disney-MGM property a few years ago. There are pictures of it being trucked out and it clearly had no automotive chassis or lower hull for that matter, hence I think it was just a static version of the prop tank.

I would add a few other props to the WW1 list.

There was a prop A7V hull somewhere in the Czech lands that could be fitted to a T-34 chassis, it was used in a Communist era film about the fighting in Berlin during the the revolution of 1918-1919.

There was a prop Mark IV based on a cut down Centurion tank and used in various UK based films - it has been modified a number of times, but it's best known for it's use in the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

Another electric motor powered mini-Mark IV was built from the ground up for a Kenneth Branagh film called "The Magic Flute" which was set in WW1. The vehicle was electric powered and not full scale because it was used on indoor stage sets.

As a final note, I think the Rethondes FT tank replica (listed above) built for the film "A Very Long Engagement" has confused a number of people because it is often mislabeled as a real FT in people's online photo sets.

There's also a replica Mk IV being built at Poelcapelle, Belgium to replace the one (D29 Damon 11) that was in the town square from the end of WW1 until scrapped by the Germans in 1941.

An interesting site and project! There's also a very interesting book about it called "Poelcapelle 1917 - A trail of wrecked tanks" by Robert Baccarne.

Wow, its been at least two years since I had last seen the Poelcapelle site. It's great to read that they were able to find the funds to make the replica into a self-propelled vehicle. They did a great job on the frame.

Also adding one more Mark IV replica to the mix. The Friends of the Lincoln Tank are working on a full scale replica. They have already fabricated some steel components, but I have not seen any progress photos for a while.

The Mark V at the Puka tank museum in Australia was used in the 1980s WW1 TV series 'Anzacs'.

Mark IV

www.milweb.net/classif...0721&cat=1

"Built for Kenneth Brannagh and Stephen Fry's adaptation of Mozart's the Magic Flute movie. Due to the fact the filming was carried out in a studio this world war one (WW1) Mark 4 tank could not weigh more than a few tons (the weight of a car.) and was originally run with electric motors. These have been replaced with a diesel engine and gear box from a Ford Transit making parts and maintenance easy. Faithfully modelled on an original Mark 4 Tank at Bovington Tank Museum."

It seems like there are suddenly so many Mark IV and A7V replicas that you could put on a full WWI tank battle!

You could recreate in UK at least part of the part of the Villers-Bretonneux battle where the A7V 561 "Nixie" slugged it out with a Mark IV male today. To do it right, Bob Grundy's A7V replica would need some minor modifications and a some repainting as it is current made out to play the part of 504 "Schnuck." It would be an easy make over. I am almost surprised it has not already been done for some TV show, maybe it has? The Tank Museum just bought the excellent Mark IV replica built for "War Horse." Rumor has it that the A7V "Schnuck" is up for sale as well, and one can only hope that that the Tank Museum will also acquire Bob Grundy's A7V replica.

To pull off the whole engagement you would need two more Mark IV females.
