Does anyone know when and why the turret lifting lugs on the M60A0 went from the M48 configuration of one lug in the front and two in the rear to two in the front and one in the rear? I have found several picture with both configurations and assume the M48 type is the first production run?
In this picture you can see the fourth M60 has the M48 style by the jerry can.

The lifting rings were changed when it was found their original locations interfered with the larger cupola of the M60 . Not sure of the date, but am checking.

OK, I figured it had to be something logical like that.

Sometime after they moved production from the Delaware Plant to Detroit the change went into effect and the foundries that produced the turrets implemented it. No exact serial # that is the transition point since deliveries caused an overlap of both types. Generally most fall below SN 600, but that being said you will find some late production M60's with the early turret. This occurred when tanks were sent off to be rebuilt at Anniston and turrets removed were not being mated back to their original hulls.
