Stinger?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

"Somebody took really good care of this," said Williams, holding a .308-caliber M1-A Springfield rifle worth about $1,500. "I'd bet a body part this was never used in a crime."

Looks like a TOW-round container or thereabouts to me, if it's indeed a Stinger round, it's minus the launcher- I want so see how they shoulder fire that as is.

Too bad the collector's arms are slated to be destroyed, although you never know... At least BATF gives some to museums and has its own collection that you wouldn't believe, it's a dream come true. Cool

Hi Folks!

The diameter if a Stinger is just under three inchs. That thing is closer to five, possible six inchs in diameter.

I agree with those who think it is a TOW missile.

I wonder how much that thing weighs? I thinking what they may have there is a tube that someone put the end caps back on after the missile had been fired. An empty tube would be much easier to take that a loaded one. If it is still loaded, the ATF should be able to trace the serial number back to the last unit it was issied to.

Interesting!

As I under stand it, the Stinger missile is packed inside a combination 'storage, shipping, and launch tube' type of container.

For a Stinger, the Fire Control assemble is detachable leaving one with just a long tube which can be thrown away.

As you all can see, this Stinger is longer and thiner that the tube that police officer is holding.
The TOW missile is packed inside a combaination 'storage and shipping tube' type of container. That missile needs a short barrel to help support it after it has left the container. Again, after launch, the container can be thrown away.

Yes Roy,

that was exactly my point, substitute "fire control unit" for "launcher" in my text and we're in agreement. Wink

Is it the wonders of the uninformed press here or is Orlando PD undersupplied with ex-military types? I should have a look at the video...

Do a Google search for "71A-3 TOW", it's a TOW tube alright (and empty).

A pair of brand-new sneakers for an empty TOW-tube? Somebody got himself a deal. Mr. Green

Now where are my empty ammo cans...
