M36 Jackson - Survivors
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

"M36 Jackson (4733) – Garbarino World War II US Military Vehicle Museum, San Rafael, CA (USA) - It is an ex-Yugoslavia Army vehicle"

This vehicle has been gone from the Joe Garbarino's for several years. Its whereabouts are unknown.

The M10 and M36 didn't have names in US service

- binder001
To US troops it was a "TD" or an M36

Yes but the M36 wasn't used only by US Army ! In other countries and other countries which used M36 the

name Jackson get connected with M36 and now every specialist of AFV used both description M36 and Jackson.

I don't think the British ever assigned the name Jackson to the M36 and I have never seen the name connected with any 'user documentation' only with hobbyist publications after the 70s.

I maintain that Jackson is as much a name for the M36 as Gavin is for the M113. If proved wrong I will apologize and eat the appropriate amount of crow. And I hereby issue the challenge for anyone to produce documentation from a reputable source that the name was used anywhere before hobbyist publications used it

Hi Folks!

- bsmart
- Patrik
Another M-36 probably is not on the list. It is from the USA.
EX-Jugoslavia?
bbs.stardestroyer.net/...mp;t=91071

Given it has a fume extractor on the 90mm I suspect it was an ex Yugo vehicle.

The M36 at Hubbard Ohio had the same gun but the outer 'cannister' of the extractor had been removed leaving only the small holes in the gun tube as a hint of where the gun came from

And I will lodge my protest to connecting the name Jackson to the M36. I have never seen any reference to that name before wargame documentation in the early 70s. I dispute the use of this name and the name Scott for the M8 HMC unless someone can come up with some period reference

I don't think that is a ex-Jugoslavia vehicle. Look at the lower rear hull. You can see the inside of the axle for the right idler wheel. If that vehicle was an ex-Jugo, you would see a box sticking out and blocking our view of axle base. The orignial US engines were replaced by newer Soviet tank engines. The lower rear hull needed an extention box to make room for an oil pump on those Soviet engines.

I also agree with Bob about the name Jackson. Do to the internet, a lot of hobby magazines, and books a lot of vehicles are being tagged with unoffical names.

I get the feeling that folks like Bob and myself along with other folks who keep trying to hold back the flood of miss information are being overran.

Roy - That vehicle does have one feature I've seen on many ex - Yugo M36s. It has the later 90mm gun with the fume extractor. This gun was not standard on the m36 but I'm told was retrofitted from M47 tanks by the Yugoslavians

we have the same problem with the name "'FT-17" for the Renault-built 1st World War tank. The correct name is Renault FT. It's just like the Renault UE tankette, no one says "UE-32".

yes, more likely in January or February 2012.

The fiel already exists (Rafal Bialecki has created it already) but I have to review it before being published.

To those M36 GMC in USA :

M36 Jackson (7069) – Virginia Museum of Military Vehicles, Nokesville, VA (USA)
M36 Jackson (4733) – ex Garbarino World War II US Military Vehicle Museum, San Rafael, CA (USA)
M36B2 Jackson (4964) – Jacques Littlefield Collection, Portola, CA (USA)

We know the original Yugoslavian tactical number on the turrets.
I'm looking for information on the tactical numbers of those ex-Yugoslavian M36:

M36 GMC – Military Museum Of Southern New England, Danbury, CT (USA)
M36 GMC – Veterans Memorial Museum, Huntsville, AL (USA)
M36 GMC – U.S. Cavalry Museum, Fort Riley, KS (USA)
M36 GMC – Larry Mogge Collection, KS (USA)
M36 GMC – Fort Bliss Museum, Fort Bliss, TX (USA)
M36B2 GMC – National Armor and Cavalry Museum, Fort Benning, GA (USA)

Those GMC were re-painted and the number isn't visible now. If someone have those infromation about Yougolavian markings too that vehicles I would appreciate any help.
