A between +1.5 - 2.0 adjustment on exposure makes a world of difference.

The second M24 chaffee has an interesting mounted 'box' over the main gun.

Is that an IR light or some sort of (laser) range finder?

Since the collection is in Norway that Chaffee's probably an NM-116. There also appears to be one at Saumur - the connection presumably being the French gun.

yes, there is one NM-116 in the indoors reserves at Saumur. I do have a picture on my computer, but I'm not at home yet. Should be able to post a picture on next Tuesday.
