From the T23 files that I have found a partial T23 Medium Tank TM 9-734. Also, in my photos from APG I found the T23 photos from 1986. IIRC when Robert Lessel escorted me behind the fence the one T23 was used for the Remote Control Equipment test vehicle. So this vehicle (see photos) has main gun removed so that remote equipment could be set up in it. It would be the first "ROBAT" type vehicle, along with the 1 1/2 ton truck tested there. Even though both of these vehicles are supposed to be in the Museum, I never saw them there. Not sure where the truck ended up. Rick

That looks like one of the two T23s that had been recovered from 'behind the fence' back when I was still going up to Aberdeen on a regular basis. I think Neil got some pictures of them.

Bob, yes it was 'behind the fence' and I've photos of it and the other T23. Back in 1986 I was escorted there (by asking permission) by Robert Lessel who was PAO at that time. I did see numerous items that were being tested, but I wasn't allowed to photograph due to secrecy. Rick

It was sitting with other Museum vehicles when the move to Ft Lee was being planned. I don't know if it went to Ft Lee or not

That's the same T23's I saw in 1986. It's sad that they weren't even repainted. Does anyone know where they are now? Rick

When I was still going up to Aberdeen I was pushing for them to be included in the museum collection. At the time they were not planning on including them because of the amount of work they would need. I was advocating that they were an important 'missing link' in the development of the American MBT. I think I was making progress, then we had several upheavals in Museum Management and BRAC became the overriding mission. The last director became somewhat secretive about plans and eventually I realized that he wasn't interested in sharing plans or even continuing to try and show the museum off to visitors. His only interest seemed to be moving everything out ASAP.
