This armored bus was used around the Bahgdad area. The center plate on the nose says "Rhino Runner". When I zoomed in on the 1 inch stenciling on the left hand side of the nose, it apperaed to say "COFFIN". I would be skeptical to ride in anything named coffin! Again, this picture was taken by a 1/11th ACR trooper, (he just arrived back home three days ago). Anyone seen one of these before and know anything about it? The soldier told me there were a few of them running around.

Jeff;

Here is a link to the manufacturer's website. There is a Flash slideshow with just about every possible viewing angle of the vehicle, inside and out. Later on there are images from Iraq, including the Rhino Runner *after* a close encounter with a car bomb (it did pretty well). And there are even "guest stars"! Worth a look, i'd say.

How's the RG 31 MPV performing in urban environments ?

Sometime ago , I was visiting the manufacturing facility where the RG31 is being produced.

In the Visitors Lobby , noticed a letter written by a U.S. Army unit using the RG31 in Afghanistan. Vehicle tripped an IED or AT mine .

Luckily all occupants survived Smile

Did the U.S. Army ever investigate producing a MPV for use in Europe against Warsaw Pact forces ?

Cheers - Thanks

Dirk

Uh-oh,

anybody besides me suddenly thinking of the infamous "Urban Assault Vehicle"? First to name the movie gets a no-prize...

Cheers,

Hey, Jens, tanks a lot!

But i don't know if i'd like to be hit by enemy fire while in this vehicle.

I'm afraid it would go up in smoke.....

Might this not, in fact, have been an early "smoke generator" variant? I recall it was cancelled as being not cost-effective once expenditures for all those big humidors to park it in were recognized...
