Don't tell me everyone has given up on CFS3!!! I am flying IL@ FB AEP, but I still like this one! Maybe they are all waiting for MAW or OFF.

Many people still use CFS3, but its community is shrinking! Il2 PF and FS2004 seem to be the sims of choice at this time..

Is the community waiting for more add-ons? Well, yes and no, I'd think....kinda depends where you stand.

Add-ons have been around for some time. In the single-player offline realms these add-ons are probably GREAT - although if you check the forums at some of the more add-on centric CFS3 sites, you do see a regular, persistent amount of problem posts from folks who add this or that, and sooner or later, they seem to run into trouble eventually. Based on that, odds seem pretty good that once you get deeply involved in the world of CFS3 add-ons you'd better expect to spend some time on troubleshooting and support - and make backups of files and folders on a regular basis. Not dissing the quality of the add-ons, but that's just the facts. Check the problem posts at those sites and you'll see.

For online multiplayer use, which tends to be far more the focus here, add-ons (especially aircraft and weapons) spell trouble and compatability mismatch problems with everyone else even when they do work right anyway. We've probably all been there and done that. The mudpond flight model add-ons are about the only thing ever released that are a) easy to install, b) add to the variety and realism of the game, and c) prove reliable and safe as far as mismatch checking goes. Just a real shame it took two years of pleading from factions of the MP community, along with the interest and effort of a very kind and enlightened soul at the mudpond site, for it to happen.

I still love the sim too and enjoy a great online dogfight, but with limited expansion potential for multiplayer, maybe it's inevitably destined for the tinkerer crowd over time. Multiplayer has always needed the constant presence of people who spread the word that a site exists for their interest and participation in the sim, which is why when I do host a room I always put up the Com-C URL. The occasional PM from a new person who finds us and resolves config issues with the tweak guide, etc., make it worthwhile. IL2/PF is HUGE and maybe that's where it's really at, but there's still always new faces showing up in CFS3 and it's at least gratifying to help those folks out like someone helped us out once, huh?

I've heard of MAW, but not of OFF...

I hadn't heard of it either but here's some info on OFF:
off.synapticshock.org/

Looks very very intersting, WWI add-on, and what a great idea (what decent, and recent, WWI sims have you seen available? Exactly!)

Time will tell how it goes....appears to have started fairly recently, but lots of good people on that project!

And as far as MP goes, tell you what - after being online for a few hours last night with EXOS, we saw lots of new faces and a few familiar names that aren't going away.....EL SOUIXPREMO being one, now is that a talented pilot you see regularly, or what?

It was good to duke it with some of the AARP's and we had a lotta fun later with the VA's as well. But like I said, a lotta new faces, most you could tell hadn't been in the tougher settings much before (I run rooms at 85 to 90%, WEC settings with maybe externals on), one gent was inquiring if we were recruiting (we're not) as he was looking for a German squad to join. Knew his stuff and was a fair pilot too!

I dunno....I can't bring myself to count CFS3 MP out yet, it's just still to much dang fun, you know?? New pilots to meet, and shoot!

WWI addon? Interesting. Be like the old Red Baron all over again. Gotta agree with you on CFS3 being fun. Had a hell of a good time with the squad in that game. I wonder what'll it feel like reinstalling and jumping into one of planes...feel really weird.

It was good to see you again last night, Stoop. Maybe we can get a Mudpond game up tonight?
And yes, I too am still seeing new "faces" on MP. Lots of new ones in my squad that I haven't met yet. Things got out of hand with the recruiting while my 'puter was down. Seems we have 30 AARPs now.

However, the crux of my query was; where are all the folks that were regulars here at the C-C CFS3 forum? I have IL2, and enjoy flying and learning about it in single player (a MUST before I go MP and humiliate myself LOL), but I won't give up on CFS3. To me FB is different, but not better. Once again the community of CFS is a strong influencing factor in its appeal for me. The add-ons and accompaning mismatch conflicts are easy enough to work around once we understand how.

TeamSpeak adds another wonderful dimension to this and other games. Making the Sim world smaller and more personable, and bringing the camradery to a much higher level.

BTW those german planes do require some getting used to. I admire your abilty to handle them. I tried for awhile to hang with you.

TY very much sir.......yeah, the swines have worked pretty hard to master them german machines and done a great job of it, I'm just average....catch a game with Lurps, Cobra, BooRay or Turkey for a real show. VA_Sugar is pretty dang good with a FW190 also so look out when he shows up with one!

Yup, you're right, this here area could use some more activity, the afterfall of The Great Move has us all a little short of material but hopefully that shouldn't last long....:D

I've reinstalled CFS3. Downloaded the Mudpond files. It's been a while since I've flown the CFS Jug, feels real different from the IL-2 one. Tried to get into one of your games, Stepchild, but it was full all afternoon. Maybe some more luck next time.
