Hey Neil -

While running about aboard Camp Pendleton, we have some AFV location updates for you as follows -

The 3 LVTs previously displayed along C St between 12th & 13th are now on display along the West side of Wire Mountain Rd near the Camp Del Mar entrance. They are an LVTE1, an LVTR1, and an LVTH6.

An LVTP5 and an LVTH6 are displayed near the corner of where C St becomes 8th St.

The YW531 is still on display at B St and 8th St (Nearer 9th and B St actually) - very near the LVTP5 and LVTH6.

The LVTP7 and LVTR7 are still displayed on Boat Basin Rd & 9th

DID NOT SEE - ZSU-23-4 or 2S1

Further North:

The LAV Memorial along Basilone Rd has an LAV-TUA on display. The nearby area was under construction but as of 6/4/12 there was no LAV-25 on display.

The static display at the School of Infantry West along Basilone Rd has the following on display:

57 mm AZP S-60
BMP-1
T-62
T-54/Type 59
2 ZPU-4s
ZPU-1 14.5mm
2A36 "Giatsint-B" 152mm
D-30 130mm gun
Early T-55

Hi Vagabond,
Is this the same T-62 which was located at the paintball park (l/n there nov11)?

I have also a Type 69 at the Infantry School, is this one of the T-54s you mention?

Regards,
Lesley

Lesley -

You are correct - I misidentified the Type 69 as a T-54. I've corrected the gallery and my forum post - Thanks!

Will edit the above registry post to reflect that as well.

I have no idea where the T-62 was previously displayed - sorry.
Cheers,
VB

A private collector in Georgetown, Texas, has an M22 Locust hull (no turret), a Dingo Scout Car and a T-16 carrier in his collection. Some photos can be seen here : http://www.6thaarr.com/club-vehicles.html.

There are two T-62's at Camp Pendleton, one at the paintball park and one at School of Infantry.

They are located near division headquarters at some divisional school buildings. I took a couple of pics of them with my iPhone back in March. They're in pretty ratty shape and had been previously at Ft. Irwin based on the US Army bumper codes painted on them.

CA AFV notes from our adventures.

Mrs VB managed to talk our way onto the Naval/Marine Reserve base in San Diego to see the CWS-POA-H1 Sherman & M60A1 RISE with Blazer ERA. We were not allowed to take photos, but we did see the vehicles and noted that the M60 has SN3757M W311 on the engine deck and 523746 and M21442 painted on the sides. An M1 Abrahms is on display as well. It has SND8072 on the skirt and USMC 585990 painted on the side.

The M47 at the CAANG Armory on Mesa College Dr in San Diego has SN3053 on the front tow lugs.

Neil and the gang -

We visited Camp Robinson, AR and arranged to be escorted to the storage area to see and photograph the 2 M40s. Word from the director of the ARNG Museum is that the M40s are on the docket to be re-painted and that one M40 is slated to be displayed at the museum while the other M40 is to be shipped off to a VFW/AL post in NW Arkansas. The director is a former tanker - he spoke of his time in M551s and M60s.

We also saw and photographed the ARNG Museum displays, the M26A1 Dragon Wagon, the 2 M42's and the 4 aircraft on display.

In the other storage area, the M901 is still there but the 2 M60’s that were once there are gone. They were transported to a re-purposing depot and the possibly shipped off to Fort Sill as range targets. Crying or Very sad

Fort Smith, AR - update
The M55 listed as being at an ARNG Armory in Fort Smith is no longer at that location. The armory itself is closed and the building is now a training facility for police. The slab out front is empty.

While in Fort Smith we did see and photograph the M110 near Fort Chaffee and the M106A2 at the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 467.

Tomorrow we will go hunting for the M40s in Charleston, AR and Mena, AR. I’ll let you know what we find.

Cheers,
VB

I took pics of all 3 tanks when I was down there last March. The Bn S-3 gave me permission as the E-7 who I was supposed to have met wasn't there. I'm looking to go back there again in November.

Chris,

thanks for the photos of the Flamethrower Sherman. I'm still looking for a photo of the CWS-POA-H5 at Marine Corps Air Ground Center Twenty-Nine Palms.
