ROK memories (M60A3 for JoeD)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Wow,

A "Roller" Tank.

Typical Korea Scene. A lot of travel was done in the rivers since they could support the tanks better than the roads at the time. Looks like the "Chinese Tunnel" Area to me, heading towards Rodriguez Range.

Thanks Don.

Am I seeing things, or is there a M60 mounted at the loader's station? Since the link doesn't work, I'm going by what I can see here.

Your not seeing things,

All 2 ID M60A3's had an M60D for the Loader. These were taken from the M48A5's when turned in. Unlike Europe the threat was envisioned to be mainly Infantry, hoards of Infantry. Here's a picture of the bracket that was welded on.

Another thing unique to 2ID tanks was they carried M494 APERS (Beehive) for a combat load. These were kept when they transitioned to the M1 in 1990.

Very cool. Did they just have the one mount or 2 like the A5s?

Just one,

The mount was more like an arm which allowed the weapon to swing from the front to the side. The Pintle of the weapon went into the mount. I will try to find a picture if I can.

That would be great, Joe. I happen to be working on a build of a M60A3. It was going to be one from D Co. 1-4 INF, the OPFOR in Hoenfels, but when I saw this pic I changed my mind. You wouldn't have any pics of M60A3s in Korea set up for rollers, would you?

No,

I wish I did. By the time I got to Korea only the CAV had M60's and they didn't have rollers to my knowledge. I do have some good pictures of a roller tank on display. The roller isn't mounted but I did take good shots of all the welded on mounting pads.

Rollers usually stayed on the support platoon's trailers and only were mounted when a deliberate breech was planned. After passing the breech the crew would dump them and continue the fight.

I'll see what I can come up with, pictures of US M60's with the rollers actually mounted aren't that common.
