Post subject: Battle Of Britian add on

~S~.......rummor is that a Battle of Britian add on , or stand alone , may be in the works with Olge....here is an idea that needs some feedback, or could be posted in th Ubi PF site
I submit that a mess hall enviornment be created using COD type characters for the Sqn....currently, we start off in the aircraft..but when not flying and discussing missions..we stare at a screen with only view interactions....we could have a mess hall on the Airbase where we choose our COD like pilot and can manouver in the mess hall or Officers Club ..PUB..lol..and move about freely in this enviornment.... the player could choose there own

-uniform / rank
-uniform pilot name
-wings / medals
-flying equipment / sidearm
-possible face pic bitmapped onto character

With teamspeak, players could talk to other members and move about the envirnment preflighting the Aircraft...scrambling from breifing or the pub to jump into aircraft and default to the current in cockpit mode for start up

We could also customize the officers mess..pub with Sqn. colours..kill board etc...you could even choose a barmade and order a beer..lol...

Off the Officers mess would be the briefing room where missions could be run through on the board on a podium with chairs for members..

Immagine your Sqn. meeting in the Officers mess..pub...interacting with other members, maby virtual darts and a pool table...after half hour or so...you move to the brief room where the C.O. outlines the downloaded mission all can see on the board, you are taking notes on your kneeboard THEN the scramble claxton goes off. You and other members of the Sqn. jump from your chair and run to the airfield , board your aircraft to shootdown incomming bombers...quit a rush and adds the human element missing in the current game...after you land...return to th pub or briefing room to rieview the mission

Also...Sqn. airfields could be customized with Sqn. Emblems signs...etc that be sent to other Sqns for games..adds a nice touch when you are screeming down an enemy runway and you see Sqn. artwork on hanger doors before you blow the crap out of them...lol..

If you think this is a good idea..post your opinion or better yet drop the idea off at the PF site so Olge can see it for himself..

With all the Sqns out there...I think its time has come...

Funny as it sounds, it could kind of work. IC:Maddox has done a FPS so walking in first person is not impossible for the company. Would be weird and revolutionary, but that would take some time to actually produce.

Sounds like we need our own coding team to make these games the way we want them lol

Hi Guys

I would agree whole heartedly on this bein a great way to lift BoB up a level from the normal "Flight/Combat Sim"
Perhaps more importantly BoB is prolly the best scenario for this to be incorporated.. Pilots sat in deck chairs on the airfield waiting for the bell to ring and the order to scramble.. is "The Image" Of the Battle of Britain.. I actually got it from Olegs mouth that the Royal Observer Corps would be incorporated, perhaps this could be expanded into some form of stratagy element whereby somebody could actually play the part of "Fighter Command" Plotting movements on a huge map table as sightings come in from ROC and radar stations, then scrambling units to intercept. Again the "Map Table" is an image associated with BoB.

Even if we are jumping the gun it would be nice if the engine was developed with these possibilitys in mind and then seperate "games" as it were were developed that could interface with the BoB combat sim... A little bit like the way AI traffic packs, ATC etc add on to FS9

Hieracal Development

BoB combat sim (normal as we know it combat sim)
|
|
ROC and Radar addon ( replace /supplement AI observations)
|
|
Fighter Command addon (stratagy game addon and stand alone)
|
|
1940 addon (First person lettng you be a pilot, Home guard etc tour the blitzed streets of London on a red double decker, drive your MGA from the station to the Airfield, play darts and cards whilst waiting to scramble, Chat up the WAAF , Read papers of the day) again all interfaced with the BoB game..

Just to note that there is a precedent for linked stand-alone games ...

Silent hunter and destroyer command are both good stand alone sims

~S~....glad to see the idea has positive feedback, with these powerfull, affordable supercomputers that everbody is getting, it could work...the trick is to " make sure Olge finds out " and that the feedback is good.....it could be an addon to the BoB disc.....ask him to put a ripper and editor in the BoB upgrade so we can make movies from saved flights that can be posted...........

All facinatingly good ideas, and as mentioned, with today's technology more than possible. BUT on the downside, given Microft's propensity for strange and unfathomable occurances, there is a very real danger that we could get stuck permanently in 1940 and have to wait for Service Pack 3, 4 or 5 to get back to the present. Hmmm, not much of a risk after all.
