M47 Flame Thrower Tank
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Just wanted to make sure she wasn't a different tank,

This is actually the T42 turret modified by the Chemical Corps. Was intended for the T42 tank and was a result from the USMC requesting a main armament Flame Tank to replace the Shermans they had been using in the Korean war. Ended up being mounted on an M47 hull (T66, only one made). By the time they got it all figured out the M47 was obsolete and the lessons learned were applied to the M67 series (M48 with Flame Thrower main armament). This picture barely shows the welded over pistol port.

RN 30186982 (am I reading that right?) is the highest 30-series I've ever recorded.

There's a left side profile shot of it in Hunnicutt's book, pg 248.

What was T42?

T42 was the middle child of the post war "family" of tanks. The light tank ended up spawning the M41 light, the T42 was the 90mm medium. T43 was the 120mm heavy. When the Korean War spawned a "tank crisis" the T42's turret was mated with the existing M46 hull to create the M47. M47 was always regarded as an interim design to tide over the Army until the "proper" medium tank (T48) could be produced and deployed.
