Looking for tank interiors
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I do not pretend to know what the copyright status of old Soviet documents are but it is incumbant upon group members to ensure that they do not violate copyright laws when providing copies of documents to others.

Ours current minister of defence, Anatoly Serdukov, remove "secret" status from all WWII documents Wink

Hi Taranov,

It's really not a matter of "secret" classification, but one of who "owns" the rights of publication and reproduction. As noted, they are quite old, but one must be careful about reproducing documents and sharing them when the matter is uncertain.

Wydawnictwo Books have a couple of decent volumes on the T-26.

#193 T-26 volume 1
#197 T-26 voulume 2

IIRC, volume 2 includes excerpts from T-26 tm's. I have both books at home. I'll check further later on tonight.

Well, i have personal scanned manual of T-26, but it's manual of T-26 Mod.1939, with conical turret.

Well, in Russia problems with copyrights - one of biggest problems. For example, you can't publish walkarounds from Kubinka without permition from Ministry of defence, but i see books form "Military Chronicles" series with walkarounds form Kubinka.

Anyway, you can upload manual without permission Wink

If you say so. Uploads by somebody, somewhere else, at their risk, fine. Making of hard copies and discussion of sharing those hard copies between members on the forum....not fine.

Posting an image or the occasional limited excerpt from a page to illustrate or document a point is one thing, reproducing printed or digital works to pass between members (or even discussing it) without explicit permission or where the material isn't in the public domain cannot be allowed, per common sense...and if that's not sufficient, direct instructions from the adminstrators of this site who provide us with this space at no charge.

Bob and I will not be negotiating or arguing the merits of this point with any members...it simply is, should the situation arise. Wink

(And if we err, it will be on the side of caution)

Post subject: Re: Looking for tank interiors

Most folks won't realize it but Thursday Evening I deleted a post by Taranov and a response by Devnl because I felt that they were primarily directed towards downloading (and possibly violating copyrights)

But upon further review - and discussing with an associate who is knowledgeable about proper internet use I have changed my mind on the appropriateness of Taranovs post.

Just for clarity let me make a few points clear as I understand things involving copyright

1) Items published on the Internet are not different from items published in print media.

2) Just because a copyright holder makes his content available on the Internet it does not mean that everyone has a right to download the entire item. The concept of 'Fair Use' still applies

So Taranovs announcing a site where others can find the information they desired was not in itself improper. It is up to all of us who may access the information to use it properly

Given that there was a recent incident where some copyrighted was made available I decided to take a very conservative position and while I checked things out.

I will continue to take a conservative approach to sensitive incidents about copyright.

We want to encourage information sharing but I want to remind everyone that it is up to all of us individually, and as a group, act properly when dealing with copyrighted material

I do want to thank everyone for bearing with me while I woked through my concerns.

So here is the text of Taranovs message with the links to the site with manuals (In Russian)
