Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in TX....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in TX....

Hello all, it's been a while since I've been on here but I had to share these pictures. I've never been to the actual wall, but this 3/4 replica visited the Central Texas Veterans Cemetary here in Killeen this past weekend. It's 8ft tall, 260 ft long, and had 58,000 names. According to todays newspaper, about 70,000 people visited over the weekend. It tears down today and goes to Pfuegerville, TX before going on to North Hollywood, CA.
I asked the volunteers if there were any soldiers named Button, on the wall, and indeed there were three. I got the etchings of all three and plan on doing a little research on them as well. They were as follows;

Donald B. Button, Captain Air Force, 26 Feb 34 - 24 May 68, from Charleston, SC.

Howard Earl Button, SFC Army, 22May 34 - 13 Jan 68, from Buffalo, NY.

Monty Duane Button, PFC Marine Corp, 16 Aug 45 - 3 May 67, from Coosbay, OR.

The blue rig with the flag on it's side was owened and driven by a veteran of OIF that had been injured by an IED. Everything was quite impressive. Enjoy the pictures.

i hope you have been able to see the wall at the capitol. the only way to truly experience it, is to visit it at night. besides the stories and photos that i have of family/family friends, that name(s) on the wall was another link to that person, very moving to say the least... all one can say is "you dont know me, but i know who you are"...

i have been able to visit three times. i would like to take my father the next time i get the op to go back, dad has never seen The Wall.

This traveling wall was open 24hrs as well, but I didn't get the opportunity to see it at night. I've never been to the capital and this was my first time to the traveling wall. I think everyone, whether they ever served or not should visit the wall. You see all gamuts of emotions there.
