.gif is the file type.
When making them, remember that anyone viewing a page with your avatar has to download it.
I try to keep file sizes down with mine so that, if there are several, people don't getted hacked off waiting for the page to load.

This one I made in PhotoShop CS and animated in ImageReady which is bundled with it.

You can also use Fireworks.

Movie images (see below) tend to be much larger files, because they require greater frps and detail, and have started many 'flame' wars on various forums. The longer they go on, the larger the file tends to be. I don't know how to capture and transfer, but I'm guessing gif is still the best compression.

Yes I herd to use GIF for online pics. I though it was an auto download as I see so many great motion avatars on Live Leak. I thought there may be a site with differnt ones that you could save and use, like the emotions. Will have to do more checking into this. There are a couple of movie clips I would like to try that make me laugh..like General Ripper firing the 30 Cal. from the hip in the movie " Dr. Strangelove " or Slim Pickens riding the atom bomb down waving his hat, eeeee haww...lol...that would be a good one. I have Adobe photoshop 6 and of course Windows Movie Maker to edit with. Dont know much about about video editing though.?

I did a couple of them in paintshop pro some time back but forgot how too now. My point is it's not that hard from what I remember. Just frames of pictures in sequernce just like they build cartoons.

I like that red skwirell one, it's cool. Makes me wish I had a b-b gun Shocked

I used something called "Coffee Cup GIF animator" back when I tried it, sometimes still play around with it. It's payware but with like a 30-day free trial which is usuallt long enough to figure it out and get somethign done.

Matter of fact I made up this GIF which I heisted by taking several screenshots from the original Microsoft FSX TV commercials a year ago (now on youtube). Was gonna use it at another flightsim forum I sometimes visit, that's trafficked by a high amount of what I consider highly over-serious no-fun pretend Airliner pilots who tend to get a little overbearing ("this sim is no good becuase there's no high-quality aftermarket 747-400 that has proper colored winglets and an authentic EFIS setup that fully emulates the real one by interacting with the blah blah blah"...I think Microsoft had them in mind when they put this animation in their commercials..... Laughing

yeah only they were bought out by Corel, and I'm not sure if they even make the animation shop anymore, you might have to find one of the older versions to download.

Reminds me of the excitment in a certain swine when the 'ban' word is mentioned.
