Ssssh! its about the CIA.
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I like the idea of the FT-17 over the triangle. I understand the 'blank space' issue also. Would it be better to move the Rhomboid T-34 modern images down there? Remember as a hat or golf shirt logo it will be maybe 3/4 the size of the image I see on my screen right now. Those tanks will be pretty crowded where they are. On a card they will be downright tiny.

The choice of which vehicles to use is tough. Given that we have a large American symbol already I think using the T-34 as the 'middle era' tank would be appropriate. As far as the Modern one I think at this scale they will all pretty much look alike Confused


You might be on to something there, we could move the triangle up, then have the row of tanks, and then the motto (or vice versa on the last two)- although on my head it would all be visible on a hat. Smile

Given that the Leopard has more international users than the M1, and we already have two US-oriented elements, I think it's appropriate to use it as a symbol for modern armo(u)r- our children or grandchildren will eventually have to change the design for some Hover-antimatter driven-raygun equipped thingie... Rolling Eyes

Tsk tsk tsk, there you go again, confusing NATO with international... Wink And even within NATO, large military bodies are completely ignorant of these symbols, you should have seen the faces of some US and British military folks during some briefings- priceless. Laughing

Believe me, a saber, rifle or artillery piece are so nicely universally recognizable... Mr. Green

Hey maybe we should use ARMO(U)R since CURMUGEONS is so long it would move the balance point of the title to the space before the IN. Having the tanks above the motto would give more line length for the images while the words layed out as they are fill in the bottom of the curve well. (Do you think I'm overanalyzing the design? Rolling Eyes

Bob, DC is getting to you, better face it, oh overanalyst. Wink We should use ARMOUR anyways, the number of speakers of, ah, traditional English is bigger than that of the esteemed gentlemen and ladies who speak 'Murrican English- plus it proves we're a cut above the rest.

Otherwise, I'm with you, should make for a nicely balanced design.

I'm partial to number 1 and 3, I think the FT17 is a bit too much- and may I point out that's a naval gun you're using? Wink

Numbah one also shows the heritage I tried to hint at better than 3, where the T-34 gets a bit lost on the bottom.

GREAT WORK (As usual )

I like C the best (I agree that the FT-17 is a little much in the center) but I would prefer not having the branch insignia on the triangle. But I could go with A also

Is there a reason for the diamond between the tanks? It made sense when the words were there but I think it is unneeded there.

And I notice we have gone to the Canadian/British spelling of Armo(u)r Rolling Eyes That does balance the arcing title better.

None of the above - that badge is going to be expensive

Put the motto around the bottom half of the circle. Loose the rest and have a single tank graphic in the middle.

1. I like "D" the best.
2. Cost won't be a factor ("badge too expensive") if printed via on T-shirts via CafeExpress
3. Before you print ANYTHING, note that "curmudgeons" is mis-spelled on all of them! (as "crumudgeons".

I think you're going to lose a lot of detail on those vehicles in printing as a badge unless it's on a shirt-back or front at a diameter of like, 10" or better.

If you are interested in having done as a badge, webmaster at VHPA John Conway can probably have done at a reasonable rate for us...he's had a special job done for me before. Decide what you want done, and how many.

let me know the final choice and I will do up the finished version,(with correct spelling) I know it's a naval cannon but I'm having trouble finding a suitable drawing of a field piece. If using the triangle latin should I loose the diamond. What format would it be best in, i.e. Gif, Jpeg or other and perhaps the finished version can be sent to the downloads section. original is approximately 8 inch/ 20 CM in diameter

The FT-17 is completely out of context, we already have a representative of WW I that was used by more than one nation. Yes, lose the diamond if we agree on the triangle latin, and maybe then we should rearrange the tanks slightly so that they fit around the bottom. Here's a field piece you might be able to use:



Maybe three different sizes, 10, 20 and 30 cm so we can the use the size we need without creating any distortions or pixels by changing the size- and I'd say most T-Shirt printing outfits (which are a dime a dozen these days) can use .jpgs.
