Just What AMTRAK needs
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Unfortunately, it would either be late, or derail and then be later.

...and even with guns, it would still manage to lose money.

There's a caption contest here somewhere, maybe we should move this to the "Draw and Shoot" forum.... Wink

There has been a problem in the Northeast corridor for years with people throwing things at trains. They also hang things from overpasses and trees to hit the train (Things like bowling balls and concrete blocks). It is so bad that the forward facing 'glass' in locomotives and cars has to be made stronger than most 'bullet resistant' glass. The even build a metal grid over the windshields to help absorb the blows. I also remember a story about CSX having a problem with an insurannce scam. Folks who owed more on their car than it was worth as a tradein would park the car on a back road crossing and wait for it to be hit. This would give the train crews a chance to fight back. Come around the bend and see a Buick on the tracks, no problem a 75 mm round clears the way. See someone getting ready to drop a big rock from the bridge up ahead, pop him with a 50 cal.

Bob, Bob, Bob.....you lookin' to derail yourself? Overkill, Dude! Just need a big plow/cowcatcher thingy up front to clear the rails...don't want to damage the roadbed.

Now the .50 for overpass rockdroppers?...I'm totally down with that plan. Maybe even a canister round so we don't miss...since we're movin' and all. Wink

Some of the Iraq convoy techniques include chase vehicles zipping up and down the columns to observe the backsides of overpasses before the main packet moves through. If a locomotive had a little friend in one of those little 'jitney' track cars with a pair of .50s in a tub zipping along ahead of it ....
